Our Story Honoring a legacy, nurturing a dream

The Origin of
Rock Spur Vineyards

In the heart of Melba, a small town with roots reaching back to 1912, lies the origin story of Rock Spur Vineyards. The vineyard's name is a tribute to the land's rich history, tracing back to Clayton C. Todd's purchase of 160 acres from the BNO Railroad for just $2,000. This tract of land, known as the "Rock Spur," was initially intended to transport silver and gold from the Owyhee Mountains to Nampa. However, it became known for carrying sheep and cattle, reflecting the region's agricultural spirit. Today, the old railway bed still runs alongside our farm, a silent witness to the past. Rock Spur Vineyards was named in homage to this history, symbolizing our deep connection to the land and its stories.

A New Spin on a Family Tradition

Rock Spur Vineyards is a testament to the dedication of Tom and JoAnn, lifelong dairy farmers who have always had a deep connection to the land. Raised on dairy farms, they passed this legacy onto their daughter Jenell, who grew up caring for cows and learning the ropes of farm life.

Tom's curiosity led to planting a small hobby vineyard, which quickly became a family passion. Jenell suggested growing grapes for local wineries, and each year they expanded with new varietals and more acreage. What started as a hobby has blossomed into Rock Spur Vineyards, a family venture rooted in hard work and a love for the land.
